Krop

I have recently been introduced to Krop, the creative database. It’s not quite LinkedIn as you are unable to just search around for other people’s portfolios and link up with likeminded professionals but here you can also build up a resume but you also have the added capability of adding portfolio work samples.

The whole site is really very well made, simple and also pretty. If you are currently looking for a job, or even if you’re not, I advise you get yourself signed up.

If you upgrade to the Pro account, as apposed to sticking with the free standard version, you get more image upload allowance and different profile skins to chose from. Thankfully these “skins” are not tasteless but kept to a minimum of 4 different options Serif and Sans Serif in a choice of either black or white.

I haven’t personally made the $9.99 per month leap to the pro account, even though I have already hit my image limit, because although I want to put more work up, I do have a link to my portfolio site in my profile information and it is therefore all viewable here!

Take a look at my profile page here. Oh and for those who are interested, here is my LinkedIn Profile too.

Kern iPhone Game

So I don’t have an iPhone but my Mr does, and everytime I find a good iPhone game I send him over a link and try to persuade him to buy them so I can try them out!

Multitouch is truely brilliant.

Some excellent games like Labyrinth, Connect4 (of course!), Duck hunt, Twister, Guitar Hero, Monkey Ball, Air Hockey… have already been added to the collection but this was one of my most recent finds from over at Vimeo

A kind of “type Tetris”, it is a must for the gaming designer trying to kill some time! For more information visit Formation Alliance or visit the App Store to get yourself a copy for the bargain price of 59p!

The *New* New MacBook!

Well, you might remember me saying that I was sending my other new MacBook back to the store as alot of things decided to go wrong with it. Fingers crossed it was just that one laptop and not the entire glitchy range because my new improved one just arrived and she is a beaut! ^_^

I went for the 2.0ghz with the extra 4GB of RAM and 250GB hard disk & remote. Even though as this is my main computer now I was very tempted to go for the 2.4ghz version (because aside form the extra speed, I love the illuminated keyboard which only comes with the 2.4) but It was just too much extra cash.

For anyone who is under the same dilemma, if you want to save some money but have the nippiest computer ever get the 2.0. It’s still incredibly fast and takes me just under 4 seconds to open Photoshop. Insane!! Oh and that is Photoshop CS4 by the way. I have officially been updated, next up is the website. I won’t disappoint!

Apple Laptop Promotional Video

I finally got my mitts on an embeddable version of the new Apple laptop video! (I avoid YouTube’s ugly video player like the plague) It details how the new line of laptops are put together and the lengths that Apple have gone to in order to make the process more economical.

The video also contains the Apple design god also known by the name Johnathan Ive. The man responsible for such design feats as the iPod and the beautiful iMac. For curiosities sake, see his rather impressive bio here

Wake ‘n’ Bacon Alarm Clock!!

YES such things exist!

Because there is no better smell than that of bacon. If you’ve ever wanted to wake up to the most heavenly of smells this is for you. Designed by american designers Matty Sallin, Daniel Bartolini, Hsiao-Huh Hsu, the ‘wake n bacon’ alarm clock cooks a strip of bacon, ready to eat when the alarm goes off.

And if you are wondering how this is possible… here it is explained!

A frozen strip of bacon is placed in Wake n’ Bacon the night before. Because there is a 10 minute cooking time, the clock is set to go off 10 minutes before the desired waking time. Once the alarm goes off, the clock it sends a signal to a small speaker to generate the alarm sound. We hacked the clock so that the signal is re-routed by a microchip that in responds by sending a signal to a relay that throws the switch to power two halogen lamps that slow-cook the bacon in about 10 minutes.

So no sound is made… just the whiff of bacon to wake you up. Mmm delicious, but bringing bacon closer to my bed is not gonna get me out of bed. And a smell alarm? I wont be woken by anything short of a fog horn.

So.. funsies? yay!
Practicality? Nay.

The day Apple broke my heart…

Sigh.

Today was the Apple Notebook event. The event I have been looking forward to for over a month. The event that was *supposed* to announce this amazing, yet affordable, new laptop. As it was rumoured they were making a laptop price bracket under $1000.

Ofcourse Apple never ceases to dissapoint, as rumoured, the new laptops feature multitouch glass track pads. The new “brick” manufacturing process in which the laptop is created from one block of aluminium, thus minimising waste and is infact highly economical to create/pack/ship.

However, when it came to the price margin… this was when i started to realise the cheapness wasn’t coming anytime soon. The new Macbooks come in 2 different specs 2.0ghz and 2.4ghz, the lowest of the two being $1299. On the UK Apple store that makes it £949…. with student discount that makes it £891.

Sneaky Apple display the *new* Macbooks as starting at £719, because they are keeping the lowest spec old white Macbook in their store. The lowest spec 2.1! Well the one I sent back was 2.4ghz and it cost me £749! It had 1GB less ram but it was faster and considerably less money. Sigh…

I hope the new graphics card is a massive improvement on the old white Macbooks and that the multitouch is amazing, because that price margin has definitely gone up imo. Keeping the old versions crappiest computer and lowering the price by £30 doesn’t make it good value! And it certainly doesn’t make it OK to raise the price of all the other laptops comparitively!!

Here are some pics of the new Macbooks and Macbook Pros, I think you will agree they are beautiful, but I honestly don’t know if it worth the massive price increase.

Tomorrow tomorrow!

OK! So tomorrow, Tuesday 14th, is the secret Apple event… supposably announcing the new notebook designs. Whether it is true or not we’ll have to wait and see, but it’s looking more and more like yes, it is true!

The rumours didn’t stop today when PlanetMac released a composite of what they believe the new Macbooks will look like, based on all the hearsay so far.

Some higher quality “leaked” images have emmerged and show a little morre than the original blurred images that leaked about a month ago.

A few observations include:

- The optical drive appears to be on the right side (when facing the laptop)
- All the ports are on the left side (when facing the laptop)
- Case does not appear to be tapered like the MacBook Air
- Power button is in the far top right corner
- Large trackpad like the MacBook Air
- Appears to be “latchless”
- No Firewire port on MacBook?

Something that can’t physically be seen is the multitouch trackpads fuctionality, but if it is anything like the iPod Touch and the iPhone, it will be brilliant.

The aluminum MacBook has been rumored since forever, and if we take the leaked shots as real, Apple is finally going all-metal in its Mac lineup.

Also, The Inquisitr claims that some Apple retailers have already been given price lists for Apple’s upcoming laptops and that there are 12 price points ranging from $800 to $3100. Current laptops are said to have only have 8 retail price points: 3 Macbooks (starting at $1099), 3 Macbook Pros and 2 Macbook Airs.

Needless to say, I’m excited and I will be watching the live conference over at Apple tomorrow!

…and the Spotlight Turns to Notebooks

Yay! Engadget announced that there is infact going to be an Apple event this tuesday 14th – as rumoured – and lets face it… it was clearly going to be Laptops next, now it’s official.

The rumors were true folks. Apple is staging an invitation-only Town Hall event in Cupertino next Tuesday, October 14th at 10AM PDT. It’s absolutely safe to say they’ll be showing off new laptops… and you know we’ll be there live! Will this be an unveiling of a whole new form factor? Will this “Brick” mystery be put to bed? Will they come in rainbow colors? Tune in to find out.

The “brick” refers to the recent dubbing of Macs new manufacturing process which uses a single block of aluminium to create their new notebooks.

The new technique will supposedly allow for seamless components which require no bending or folding, won’t use screws to join together, are ultra-light but also “super strong,” and will enable the company to rapidly prototype and produce new designs.

“Supposed” leaked images here

Oooh! A Sneaky Peek?

Here is a little look at the complete rebrand that is coming up hopefully soon(ish) of www.likeyougiveadamn.com It’s going to be shiny and new, and I can’t wait to get it online. This is just the version that I’ve been working on recently, by the time it goes live it might have been tweaked.

I’ve been persuaded to become a little bit more web 2.0, and I think it was a necessary step for LYGD’s 1 year facelift.

Also, you might be more interested to know that what you are looking at is a mock up of what the new MacBook Pro’s are rumoured to look like. Featuring the same shaped machine as the Macbook Air but the glossy patent look that everyone is talking about, superdrive slot in the front and also the highlight of the new models… the multi-touch glass touchpad!!

It’s supposed to be like having an iPod Touch/iPhone for a track pad… which is going to be amazing if they implement this into the new MacBooks too!!

Nanochromatic

…and as rumoured here are the brand new iPod Nanos!

Ohhh! So the first thing I’m thinking is beautiful colours!! I have the previous version of the Nano (the little stubby square ones) and personally I prefer the old shape. These are a little too simillar to the iPod minis of yonder year.

I do love the functionality. Enabling the screen switching between landscape and portrait was a good move, but it’s not really enough to sway me from my stubulent iPod.
