I got that perfect job I have been banging on about, the morning after I went for the interview I was offered the job (So hopefully they liked me as much as I liked them) and I start work on the 4th January.
Here is where the difficulty lies though. I was offered a couple of other jobs in the same week. All these places are great and the positions I was offered were very tempting. BUT! Here is what it comes down to future recruiters… *rapport*
As all the jobs were equally great, they had perks, all provided health care, so the job I accepted had to offer something extra and in the end it came down to the simple fact that often gets overlooked these days… at my new job everyone is friendly and could be bothered to spend time talking to me, even though as “just an applicant” they may never see me again. Because they spoke to me, I learned that they had much the same ideals as me when it comes to designing.
This is important to me because, let’s face it, I might be working with them for the next few years!
Although I’m not going to tell you where this perfect job is yet, I will give you a clue in the form of the image above sent to me by the company in their seasons greetings email ^_- Oh I am a tease!

MA [done]
I got my marks on Monday, as many of you may already know if you follow me on twitter I got a First Class Honours! Very very pleased, so much effort went into the creation of that end outcome I thought I might need to hibernate afterward. But thankfully my tutor loved it, and to quote him… “Your award is a reflection of a very successful project which was regarded very highly by the assessment team”
I feel incredibly lucky to have had my tutors help and expertise during the project, he’s obviously a very brilliant man with an extensive typographic knowledge, so he was the perfect choice to advise me during my particular studies. I feel a bit funny about mentioning his name here just in case he finds out and doesn’t like it…. so I wont.
But assuming that he will one day stumble across my blog and see this post, thank you so much for all your help, working with you was inspiring.
Meanwhile, job interviews-a-plenty. All over the place too! Kensington, Angel, Clapham, Westbourne Park, Covent Garden, Wimbledon… jeesh, there are many! I have a favourite, the job is perfect for me and I want to start working there really soon, and that is the last I am saying on the matter because I don’t want to get all excited to then change my mind/not get the job and then have a stupid irrelevant blog post on the internet forever.
I have another busy day tomorrow, my ‘exit tutorial’ in the morning and also another job interview in Covent Garden. No idea what to expect this time as the agency is keeping me in the dark, so fingers crossed!!

The Postgraduate show ends this Thursday (as in tomorrow) so you should get down there as soon as you can to see all the talented young designers and their work before it’s too late!
The show was absolutely packed on Friday opening night, it was a shame that in the end it was closed an hour early because of the bad weather, but it was a great atmosphere and so much to see. I’ve had to make a return trip to make sure I get to see everything before it closes.
Read the review of the show on the LCC blog here

lol.
I needed to write a post to settle my nerves a bit as I’m about to have the most nerve racking 24 hours in history!! It’s no surprise that, having finished the MA a few weeks ago now, I have been applying for some jobs. I’ve been really fortunate and have alot of really exciting positions and interviews lined up. Among them, I have a 2nd round interview tomorrow morning at 9.30… which lasts 3 hours. Nervous.
The design vacancy for this particular job is at a brilliant company based in beautiful Kensington, lovely people, great work. It couldn’t be better, could it? I’m stoked to have an interview (and the 2nd interview) now to bag the job, atleast that’s the plan.
Then at 4.00 I get my final marks for the MA. Double nervous.
I am trying not to stress about it too much, I got brilliant marks for the first and second unit of work, I am hopeful for this third and final unit too… doesn’t mean I’m not going to be having stomach flips all day though. Especially because one of the tutors on my course has been quoted as saying “there will be tears” when referring to the collection of marks tomorrow.
I am holding it together and trying not to work myself up into a state, there is a second evening viewing of the MA work on tomorrow night so there will be an opportunity for me to celebrate (or commiserate?) with my classmates and get a peek at the work I missed out on seeing on Friday night at the private viewing, because of how absolutely packed it was!!
Try to beam me some happy thoughts tomorrow (or today depending when you read this) believe me they will be really appreciated! <3 Expect an update soon!

I’ve had this bookmarked for a while and while clearing through old browser bookmarks and folders I’ve decided it’s time to buy.
It’s a bit of a weird coincidence actually, because for those of you who have been following me for a while you will remember me writing this post waaaay back in January when I started my MA at university, and now I have (re)found this poster when I’m about to finish my MA.
I get my final grade on the 6th December, I am so completely nervous, but if I get the mark I want (I’m not saying what it is…) I’ll consider this poster a present from me, to me!
To get a copy for yourself skip over to the Keep Calm Gallery and for just £25 this Seb Lester print can be yours too!

Above is the end video of my outcome for the final major project of my MA in Graphic Design, the whole project was handed in for assessment yesterday morning!
The title of the project “How can I create interaction using multipoint perspective”
The basis of the project was, I wanted to see if I could create a deeper understanding of content if the viewer has a chance to physically interact with the form in order to decipher it (or whether they would be able to decipher it at all)
This involved developing an output which used multipoint perspective to incite user interaction.
I used a quote by Henry David Thoreau to illustrate my method “it is not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.”
I looked at how John Berger and David Hockney had said that visual depth is lost when content moves from 3D to 2D form. But here I created 2 dimensional form from 3 dimensional objects.
In time I will upload the visual summaries and the report so that, for those of you who are interested, you can read more about it.
The output installation itself took around 2 weeks to finish, stringing up the 32 letterforms of four different sizes, “exploiting” diminution present to make them all appear the same size. Not to mention kerning in 3D!
Projecting the second view type onto the foam letters was the most difficult part. Ever tried to draw/paint on hanging letters that have to stay in millimetre perfect positions? Punishing.
Although difficult, it was brilliant fun to put together. Created in a classroom, there were always people around who would slink about the perimeter of the installation and try to figure out what it says. Which was incredibly fulfilling to know that I had made such a curious object (:
This still currently hangs in D207 of the London College of Communication and will be included in the post graduate design showcase starting on the 3rd December, so please come and have a look if you can, it really looks much better in real life!
You can see more close-up pictures here in the previous post or on my Flickr

I’ve been working on my final project for what feels like forever, above you can see a (rough) video of it, I’m taking the final shots of it tomorrow including filming it.
There is ultimate pressure on to get it finished asap (obviously aside from meeting print deadlines and the like) and it’s big BIG news, I want to tell you all about it but I don’t want to jinx things.
As usual I will keep you updated with more info nearer the time. But let’s just say 2011 is looking to be a MUCH more exciting year than 2010!
Halloween is coming up this weekend, which will give me a much deserved break from work. Whether I like it or not!
In the mean time, check out these pictures of some of the finer details of the project, up close and personal!

Ohhh! So I am SO close to finishing my MA. Just 33 days to go before the final hand in, everything is finalised, just need to make my final outcome and send everything to print and I can sit back (er, not really) and wait for my marks to come in.
I attended the Brand Licensing event in Olympia the other day, to catch up with developments in upcoming projects and chat to Aardman about some exciting new stuff. Some things that are so new that googling it *nothing related appears*… that’s fresh folks.
If you follow me on twitter you might remember me saying that all this work was good timing, I wasn’t being sarcastic. I am about to be hit with a mushroom cloud of freelance and it’s looking like it will be just as I hand in my MA stuff. Perfect timing!
In the title image you can see a sneak peek of what I’m working on for my final outcome for the major project. I’m wishing I hadn’t made this so complicated for myself, but I’m hoping it will be worth the effort in the end. That’s the plan anyway…
Likeyougiveadamn is also about to have a facelift to accommodate the new work that’s going to be featured, it’s all happening. Just a month to go and it’s all change.

Back from holiday in Turkey, SO unbelievably hot *all the time*. It was a welcome break from how hectic work has been lately, though I’m not sure it helped in the long run!
Of course, everyone says “leave your laptop at home, don’t check your email!” but I took my laptop so I could import photos/charge camera easier, well that was the idea. Then 3 days into the holiday I checked my mail. Schoolgirl error.
500 emails.
Three DAYS I had been gone! It seemed everyone who could possibly email me waited until I was on holiday. On the plus side, there were some really exciting emails to go through for work. New projects to get started on and lots of stuff to look forward to. It is fair to say, I am about to get really busy.
Not to mention the final major project is due in early November, with trade shows to attend and a post graduate show to prepare for all within the same month. I’m not panicking.
Work update coming soon so be sure to check back, but in the mean time think warm sunny thoughts while you look a couple holiday snaps.
